If your small business is just getting started, your marketing team might only consist of one person. This can definitely change over time. If you’re bringing in new marketing people or thinking about doing this in the future, this article series is for you.
The Ideal Marketing Team
So how should you structure your ideal marketing team as a small (or medium) size business? It may be best to think in terms of the following categories:
- Analytics
- Digital
- Creative
- Campaigns
Let’s Get Started
Let’s start with analytics. Your business takes in a lot of data every day, and much of it can be used for marketing purposes. Hiring a marketing analyst can help you pinpoint exactly who your customers are and what they’re doing. Collecting this information isn’t valuable unless you implement changes either, so your marketing analyst may also make suggestions for future campaigns.

Digital is next. This is a somewhat ambiguous category, but an important one nevertheless. Social media specialists and developer/engineers may fall into this group, and both can help you to leverage the full power of the Internet for your marketing efforts. Social media is important for public relations and reaching valuable customer segments. A social media specialist can help you narrow down the work to only the most cost-effective social media sites and tactics.
Code Mode
Developer/engineers are a key part too, as these professionals understand the “code behind the curtain” so to speak and make everything actually happen on your websites. These wizards must constantly adapt  as standards change and new features are added to the Internet.
Look out for Part 2 next time!
