GetUWired lends a hand with Habitat for Humanity of Lumpkin County

By Internet Marketing

On December 11, 2014, the GetUWired team partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Lumpkin County to take on three projects to help needy families in Lumpkin County.

We love our mountain home

The GetUWired team is proud and passionate about where we come from, and we wanted to do something to improve our community for our end-of-year team-building event.

“Our roots are here in Dahlonega,” said Melissa Allen, GetUWired vice president of operations. “We have a social responsibility to help our community when we can. We gave back when we had 18 people last year, are giving back with 35 people this year, and will give back when we get to a thousand people. We won’t ever forget how we got here and the community that embraced us so that we could grow a tech company in the mountains.”

Home Depot, here we come

The day started with a meet-up at the Dahlonega Home Depot for supply pickup and to split into our teams to head out to hit the jobsites.

Team 1 was headed by everybody’s favorite BBQ chef and Project Manager extraordinaire Eric Browning. Eric and his team were tasked with building a wheelchair ramp for a woman just north of Dahlonega.

Team 2 – Trailer Revamp

Team 2, headed by Corey Gunter, was tasked with remodeling a trailer to get it up to code so a deserving family could move in. Team 2 had to demo rotting front and back porches, remove some old wood flooring, put up drywall in one room and install baseboards, chair railing, and ceiling trim in another room.

Team 3 – Bedroom finishing

Team 3, headed by Senior Project Manager Justin Pugh, helped finish a bedroom that had been languishing in mid-remodel for too long. Team 3 repaired a wall, hung tar paper and vinyl siding, installed sheetrock, changed out door knobs and locks and built steps to a new door.
