Infusionsoft is now Keap! With the name change comes a new, simple-to-use product in addition to the Infusionsoft you already know and love.

Exciting news – Infusionsoft, the CRM software you know and love, the one that’s transformed your business – now has a new name. Infusionsoft is now Keap.

Why is Infusionsoft changing its name?

Fun fact – Infusionsoft isn’t the first name of the company. It’s first moniker was eNovasys, which founders Scott Martineau and Clate Mask said nobody could remember. Then they changed to Infusion Software and Consulting, then just Infusion Software. When customers typed in their web address, they typed in Infusionsoft.com, so they started calling the software “Infusionsoft,” much to Clate’s dismay. But eventually, Clate and Scott came around and changed the name to what customers were calling it anyway – Infusionsoft.

The new change to Keap comes as a recognition of all the hard work and transformation that Infusionsoft has done over the past several years. “We’ve expanded, and there’s a new mission in front of us,” said Scott. “We needed a name that can stand up next to the mission that we have – which is to change the world for small businesses and simplify growth for millions of small businesses.”

The Keap name – The universal story of small business

In a webinar announcing the name change to the Infusionsoft Partner Community, Clate told a touching story of how they came up with the name Keap.

When the company first started, he thought it would take off in six months to a year. When it didn’t, with four kids, a wife, and $100,000 in student loan debt, the $2,000 a month Clate was bringing in was a real struggle for his family.

“It was so brutally difficult to get this business going,” Clate said. “I wanted to quit. I had people telling me to get a real job. Things were really hard at home and I had doubts … We literally didn’t have food in the cupboards.”

Clate’s wife Cherise told him she could no longer handle the strain of trying to raise four kids on no money, and she finally told him he had to get a real job. He said he would start looking the next day. But the next day came, and he was so consumed with work that he forgot to peruse the job ads.

“I will never forget what happened that day,” he said. “I walked into the kitchen and Cherise’s back was to me, and she turned around and said ‘Did you look for a job today?’ And I just said ‘No.’ And she walked over to me and gave me a huge hug and said ‘Just keep going.’”

“We had been at such odds and there was so much tension … To ask her to go through what we were going through wasn’t very fair. That message that she said – keep going – that message isn’t just my story. That is every small business owner’s experience again and again. The doubt  and challenges – mental, physical, emotional. At the heart of it all is the drive to keep going. It requires that perseverance. It is the essence of our brand and of small business.”

So Keap is everything about the new mission – and the spirit of small business – encapsulated into one word.
